Branding is a term often used in relation to products for sale or identification of farm animals in agriculture. So why use the branding in relation to a human being? I noticed from Jesus’ teachings that oftentimes animals and non-living things are used in his parables to drive home cogent points. Let’s take a look at these Scriptures,

“What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the one that is straying?  And if he should find it, assuredly, I say to you, he rejoices more over that sheep than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray.Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish. Matthew 18:12-14

Peter said to Him, “From strangers.” Jesus said to him, “Then the sons are free.  Nevertheless, lest we offend them, go to the sea, cast in a hook, and take the fish that comes up first. And when you have opened its mouth, you will find a piece of money; take that and give it to them for Me and you. Matthew 17: 26-27

But one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loosen its seven seals. Revelations 5: 5

“Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully until she finds it?  And when she has found it, she calls her friends and neighbors together, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the piece which I lost!’  Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.  Luke 15: 8-10

Also, I discovered that God uses what you have (your skills, talents, gifts, abilities and area of education) as the platform to reach your world. Matthew 4:18-19. Having studied Agriculture, it is my most familiar terrain to speak from.

And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men. Matthew 4: 18-19

Simply put, branding is ensuring that what is yours is easily recognizable and doesn’t get lost in the crowd.
